Immediately after car goes into all gears but trans will not engage. All gears like in neutral. No prior indication of clutch problems. No grinding, hard shifting or any other problems.

Mechanic says clutch needs replacing: $1200. Doesn't sound right. A sensor issue makes more sense. Never had a car where clutch just stops working. Plus, I should be able to get it into a gear, even without a clutch.
