:: Author Message grayrider Long Time User Joined: 19 Oct 2014 Posts: 1297 Location: Alabama (Roll Tide) Posted: Sat Apr 21, 2018 8:05 pm Post subject: IMT tractor I?m still looking for a tractor with loader, this 542 IMT is for sale about 18 miles from me, owner is asking $2500, also comes with a blade and bush hog, someone else gets to look at it before me in the morning, it will probably sell before I can go see it, owner says everything works but engine does have slight tap to it on top end. Any thoughts on these tractors, I do know they have the Perkins engines, parts availability???? The company went under in 2015. Many of the parts can be crossed over to MF ones but some are different. Should be worth the $2500 if the engine issue is not a major noise.
It could just need the valves adjusted. Tafe tractors are also supposed to be a copy of Massey's, but they are not! Yes, some parts will interchange, but some won't. We won't work on them in our shop, due to the parts availability problem. I am sure it had a perkins engine. About like the 165 but heavier. I would recommend that if you cannot buy it cheap leave it alone, as it may be impossible to get your money back in resale.

I found a TAFE tractor in a salvage yard, the radiator, and steering box is now on my MF135. The diesel engine it had was copy of the Perkins ad3.152 except it didn't have Perkins anywhere on it.
