Very Interesting. More so because I removed the bolt from a 1942 model 52B on Sunday by pulling the trigger and removing the bolt. The Model 52 began production in 1920.
In 1930 the speedlock trigger was introduced. The first model 52 sporting rifle was produced in 1934 The 52A began production in 1935 The 52B entered production in late 1936 and was plagued with a problematic adjustable trigger. The 52C entered production in 1951 The 52D entered production in 1961, mine was made in 1963. Is the company currently known as Winchester calling some modern Model 52 a 52B?
The copyright notice was 1997 which seems a bit recent for the original run of the 52B. Copied from a thread in RimfireCentral.com about the reproduction Win 52B made in the 90's. 'During the early to mid 90's, Winchester authorized the manufacture of several thousand M52B Reproduction Sporters; actually, they are M52C repro's made to 'look like' M52B sporters, ie they have the Micro-Motion trigger of the 52C, and are magazine feed repeaters. Miroku of Japan made all the rifles for both Winchester and Browning.
The two rifles are 'almost' identical. Most of these rifles are very accurate.!! They initially sold for $499., and now are running $600. Here is a link to an old past auction for one. Just some added information on 52Ds as by now I am sure you know how to remove bolt. After the bean counters ruined Winchester's good name in 1964 the 52D was the only model they continued to make to old standards to the point they were losing money on them as it cost Winchester more to make them then, then they sold to the wholesalers just to keep some of their reputation.
